It’s About...Forgiveness


A hard message indeed, but one of the most liberating we could ever receive. I encourage you to stick with me here and read this even if it feels like I’m annoying you or that it can’t possibly be true. 

Forgiveness is a supernatural act of love. A miracle that each and every human is capable of, though, because the power to forgive does not (not at all!) come:

•from ”us”, or ourselves — it only comes by the grace of God, who has already forgiven US the unthinkable

•from ”them” deserving forgiveness — the unthinkable thing they did was, in fact, wrong! We are right to believe what they did was wrong. In forgiving the offense, there is zero requirement for us to believe what they did was right

•with any requirement whatsoever to allow this person back into our life at all, on any level (they can earn that, but we need not freely give it)

•with any stipulation for them to need to apologize first, know they’re wrong, or tell us why they did it — WE are the prisoner who gets freed when we forgive 

The freedom of forgiveness DOES:

•come from God and God alone — so when we are not yet willing, we can know that God meets us exactly where we are and will answer our sincere asking to become willing

•set us, the victim of perpetration, totally and absolutely free into the love and blessing of God. It enables us to stop holding ourselves in jail

•put the very real offense into the hands of God, the only one actually able to make it right. When we forgive, we are taking our judge hat off and allowing God to right the wrong for us (and his way will be better than our idea every single time), to restore and redeem the situation

•allows us to become able to heal from the pain of the offense — holding unforgiveness cuts us off from being able to have our injury bound up and truly healed, while offering forgiveness releases us to be healed of our pain permanently, truly, and fully

The Insatiable Beast

I was doing some reading recently, and came upon the question:  "If your food cravings had a name or personality, what would you call them?"  The author was hoping to get me to identify an image in my mind comes up when I feel that desire to fill up past the point of satisfaction.  You know what I'm talking about, right?  When the needle "full-meter" is at the F (or even a little bit past it!), but the hand still goes to the mouth.  When that utopian (aka magical and non-existent) point of "comfortably satiated" was long since ignored, yet chewing and swallowing have yet to cease.  I could readily identify with this desire to eat that didn't seem to correlate to physical hunger; but, I was having trouble coming up with a name or personality or image for it. When you look at me, I don't think it makes sense to you why I feel like I do.  The disparity between what goes on inside my head and what you see on the outside is vast and wide.  Depending on how well we know each other, it's possible that my inner misery is a mystery to you.  But, more than likely, I'm the only one I've been fooling as far as hiding my pain away.
